Little cams and levers smoothly go about their business behind the scenes, keeping things peaceful whilst you sleep. Many people find that after a while they can't sleep without the chimes and so they can also be switched permanently on (or off). Some models even give a choice of three chime tunes, which can be adjusted by moving a simple lever.
